I’d love to introduce you to someone I’ve recently connected with and I can tell you she’s been inspiring me to no end. Talking to her on the phone was like talking to my best friend and we never even met! Sonia recently launched her inspirational lifestyle and fashion blog called Onyx & Faith. She is also a jewelry designer and hand-makes all of her jewelry with quality, love, and care (you can find all of her beautiful designs on her blog!). Sonia is married to the love of her life and a mother of the most precious little girl! And guess what?! She’s been working as a 2nd grade teacher for the past 10 years (God sent, perhaps?!). But what I love about her however is how she empowers & encourages other women on her blog and her attitude towards life. I chose one of her recent posts to feature here so you guys can get a glimpse of this woman and her amazing energy and relationship with the Lord! Hope you love it as much as I do. Oh, Sonia claims she’d win the gold medal if shopping was an oplympic sport, well I’d say she’d have a fierce competitor here! 🙋🏼 Hehehehe
“Did you know that God worries about how we look, dress, and how we feel about ourselves daily? He wants us to be dressed for success daily, but the clothes God has in mind are spiritual garments that we must put on every day. How do you look after you get dressed in the morning? Do you dress yourself with the fruit of the Spirit every day which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22)? Or do you dress yourself daily with anger, laziness, lust, un-forgiveness, bitterness, jealousy, strife, selfishness, or gossip? Do you dress yourself with a nagging and complaining spirit that affects those around you instead of simply being a blessing to others and grateful for what you do have. Do you clothe yourselves daily with anxiety, depression, and fear worrying every day about everything, or are you walking in the freedom that God offers us with his joy, peace, and sound mind. God tells us to “be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). Yes please! I will gladly dress myself with that daily! This is why we must seek Gods face in the beginning of the day. “In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation” (Psalm 5:3). This practice enables us to “put on God” much like we put clothes on ourselves in the morning and “wear him” throughout the day. The sooner you “put on God” by communicating with him through prayer, the better prepared you are for whatever comes your way throughout the day. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12).
God’s very word tells us “it is very important to clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ daily, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature”(Romans 27:8). Yes we prepare ourselves physically every day, but it’s more important that we are dressed up and clothed with the righteousness of God spiritually. God delights in adorning us spiritually daily because “the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). “As much as I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10). This scripture was a prediction of what Christ the Messiah would do for us and the two things to notice are: 1. he has clothed me with garments of salvation and 2. covered me with the robe of righteousness. God is veryconcerned about our spiritual well being every day, so we must be in the habit of preparing ourselves. Just like we take special care in our physical appearance daily, we must also take special care in how we carry ourselves spiritually daily. Are we displaying Jesus wherever we go by our conduct, our speech, our actions, our appearance, and our countenance? Or do we simply blend in with the rest of the world? “I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban” (Job 29:14). “Clothe yourself with strength, put on your garments of splendor” (Isaiah 52:23). Caring for our outward appearance is not wrong as long as we remember to focus on our inner thoughts and attitudes too.”
Was this inspiring or what? I was truly blown away with her writing and call out to how important it is to wake up and carry on the right attitude. Makes it for such a better day. If we dress ourselves with the Lord’s teachings He’ll sure provide us with more than we ever imagined! Keep on dreaming, and keep on spending time with Him…it makes all the difference!
