Layered Outfit Ideas That Are Perfect for Transitional Seasons

I know that these cold months can be such a drag, but nothing helps me conquer the winter blues quite like some winter whites! My favorite pieces to style are almost always in the neutral category, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these closet staples (which are perfect for both the winter and spring.)

These picks offer everything you need to create a capsule wardrobe during the transitional seasons. They’re perfect for layering on the days that get cold, but they’re also easy to shed when the sun is shining. Oh, and they score bonus points from me for offering a soft and comfy fit. Another perk: Most of these can be dressed up or worn casually — truly the best of both worlds.

Here, I’m sharing a handful of layered outfit ideas that are ideal to wear now through spring. You can also check out my reel on how I styled each look if a quick video is more your thing!

Layered Outfit Ideas

A Monochromatic Look

My monochromatic vision came to life with these pieces! I love how that they layered so perfectly (no bulk here!) and that I was able to sneak in a little print with these kitten heels. I’d wear this look to church, the office, or for a casual date night with my husband.

Adding a hood to your outfits is a simple yet effective way to score some more warmth without spending a fortune. The exact detachable hood I’m wearing is unfortunately sold out, but this one would look highly chic with any neutral coat. The wide leg trousers I’m wearing are also worth mentioning. They’re so easy to throw on yet they look elevated and professional. They’re true to size and I’m already hunting for them in more colors!

The monochromatic vibes give this outfit a streamlined, high-end feel that’s suitable for just about any occasion or outing. Also, all of these pieces are under $100, which makes it even more of a win in my book.

A Closet Staple Jacket

This look offers a stellar mix of casual, cool, and effortlessly stylish vibes — and it’s super comfy too! The layers flow seamlessly from my hoodie to my jacket and pants, giving it such a fresh and well-balanced feel. Plus, these new shoes are definitely my latest obsession and I’m confident they’ll only get more popular come spring.

This turtleneck wool jacket feels highly luxe and makes for a timeless layer that you’ll have in your closet for years to come. It has such a polished look that I’ve even thought about draping it over my shoulders for a fancy night out. And these pants? Total game-changer. Whether you pair them with heels, some chunky loafers, or sneakers, they’ll fall perfectly.

Casual Year-Round Look

If there’s one wardrobe superhero, I’d argue that it’s a plain white tee. This one (which is under $40) has a boxy and cropped fit, giving it some dimension and character. It pairs beautifully with these trousers and results in a look that could easily be worn to the office or on a day that’s filled with appointments.

Also worth mentioning: One of my tried-and-true style hacks is tying a hoodie around my shoulders for chillier moments. You could also layer on a luxe cashmere sweater to get the same effect!

A Cozy and Dressy Look

Last but not least, this sweater and skirt set make for two closet staples that you could wear to many outings. The mock neck knit look has been very “in” as of late and I’m glad it found its way into my shopping cart.

For those of you who don’t love the tightness of a turtleneck, a mock neck is the perfect alternative. I appreciate that while these two pieces look stylish when paired together, both can be worn separately as well.

Another trend I can get behind? The cozy sweater socks and kitten heel look! It gives cool girl but in an unexpected way. I’m going to be repeating this look throughout the transitional weather season — I might even add a scarf and an oversized coat next time!
