If you follow me on Instagram then you might have seen me share the official reveal of my newly renovated closet. If not, I’m sharing all the photos and details here, including what I bought for decor and organization.
I worked with Meridian Closets on this project and can’t recommend them enough. They totally saw my vision and were easy to work with throughout the entire process (which is a must when dealing with home upgrades!) We did this renovation in tandem with our bathroom remodel, which meant there was a lot going on in the house at once. However, every step went seamlessly and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the end result.
The space was originally a nursery and had been quite neglected in recent years. I got the idea to turn it into a big closet for organizing all my outfits and for shooting content. In a way, it will essentially double up as an office so I wanted to ensure it felt welcoming, cozy, and of course organized.
Whether you’re dreaming up your own walk-in closet or you love getting fresh ideas for closet organization, you can find all the details of the reno below!
I realize that not every closet offers the option to add built-in shelving, but if you do have the space and budget for it, I can confirm that it’s a game-changer.
I knew that I had to have a specific spot for my shoes (even if it was just a small area.) It’s so nice to see them all displayed rather than buried in a shoe basket or tucked in the back of my closet. I actually feel like I’ll wear more of them now that they’re out in the open!
Aside from offering a spot to store shoes, built-in shelving can also create space to stash accessories like bags, hats, and jewelry.
I know just how quickly your closet can get messy if you’re not intentional about organization. Because this space is so much larger than the previous closet I had, being mindful of how to keep things streamlined and tidy was a must.
Obviously hangers are essential regardless of your closest set-up, but I do really love the look and functionally that velvet hangers provide. They ensure that your wardrobe staples won’t slip off and end up a tangled mess on the floor. They also work for hanging up pants and skirts, or for folding longer dresses.
These are the exact hangers we bought and so far they have proven to be made with high quality. Plus, it’s so nice that they give you the option to buy a pack of 100, 50, or 20!
Another find that I thought would work well in the closet? These metal hooks/hangers, which would work well for purses, hats, or even scarves. Again, it’s a major benefit in my mind to see everything lined up and spread out rather than tucked away in a drawer — it’s much easier to grab an accessory when you can see what you’re choosing from!
First things first, I know that most closets aren’t large enough for a seating area, but because we dedicated an entire room to this space, we figured “why not?!” Like I mentioned above, I will be spending quite a bit of time in this closet putting together outfits and shooting content, so it only made sense that we incorporated a cozy seating nook.
Just by adding an accent chair and small side table it really made the room feel more intentionally designed. Even if you don’t have much space to work with, a small stool, bench, or chair can create a practical spot to put on your shoes or accessorize!
Speaking of accessorizing, I had been feeling quite in the decorative spirit after adding all the finishing touches to our bathroom remodel. Closets often lack decor, but I feel like they should at the very least incorporate some pretty wall art or mirrors.
I found a lot of cute things from Target, which had the added perk of being affordable. These art prints are similar to the ones we hung up and this mirror is the exact find we have in our space! I also love this smaller version of the iconic Anthropologie Primrose mirror, which makes for the perfect addition to a vanity or dresser.
