What to Pack for a Miami Vacation: Your Complete Style Guide

post featured image post featured image

Between Miami’s fashion influence, sunny beaches, and lively nightlife, it makes for one of my favorite places to vacation — especially for a girls trip. With all the possible things you can do in this seaside city, it’s important to pack a multitude of looks to suit your outings and activities.

Whether you’re planning your next family vacation, a girls trip, or a couples getaway, I wanted to share some Miami packing inspo that will make your prep easier.

Prior to my most recent trip, it had been quite a bit of time since my last Miami visit. However, I have some friends who live in the area and always get such good inspiration from their looks (all while adding my own twist.) I wanted my outfits to be fun and adventurous but also chic and versatile.

Here’s a look inside my suitcase so you know just how I fit everything in!

Find all my ideas on what to pack for Miami below — and safe travels!

What to Pack for Miami

A Comfy Travel Outfit

Staying comfortable and wearing layers is my key to a travel outfit. I went with pieces that I could rewear if needed, and also a shoe that I know I would be styling with other pieces. I’ve stayed loyal to this cashmere cardigan for as long as I remember and I knew it would keep me warm in the airport and I could ditch it when I landed in sunny Florida.

I always fly with a baseball hat so that I don’t have to worry about how my hair looks but I also love the chic vibe it adds to this casual outfit. These pants are sooo versatile and lightweight, which is why I love traveling in them. Most people go for sweatpants (which I do too) but I really love the idea of looking more elevated and chic even while traveling.

Matching Sets

If you’re hoping to simplify the getting ready process, opt for a matching set!

Monochromatic looks and matching sets have been a go-to of mine lately. Not only do these pieces make you look more put together, but they also take the guesswork out of getting dressed.

I packed a few skirt and short sets for this trip and I’m already ready to rewear them.

One of my favorite parts about them is that the pieces can be styled on their own as well — this can help you feel like you’ve double up on looks without needing to pack more!

An Elevated Night Out Look

From daytime chic to an elevated dinner look, this duo made for such a pretty and statement-making outfit. While it looks like a dress, it’s actually a bodysuit paired with a maxi skirt. Aside from wearing this on a vacation, this would be cute for a summer wedding guest outfit or for another special occasion.

Just add some strappy kitten heels and a cute handbag and you’ll be set!

Athleisure Looks

During my trip, the girls and I took a break from the beach and took a morning Pilates class. Let’s just say, that was the most beautiful pre-workout walk I have ever taken.

One of my must-pack items while on a tropical vacation is athleisure wear because of how much I love walking and exploring the area I’m visiting. I brought along one of my favorite workout sets and I’m sharing all the details below!

Swimwear and Coverups

You can’t go to Miami without a swimsuit! I packed a few of my favorites, as well as the most chic cover-ups I own. Even going to the beach is an opportunity to by fashionable here in Miami (which I love.)

The key to packing swimsuits is to stash them inside one of your bags or hats so you can save some space in your suitcase.

I rolled most of my cover-ups into my sun hat (which always takes up a lot of space.) This way, my hat kept its form and my beach day essentials were organized in one convenient place!

Hats Accessories Bags and Shoes

Going along with the accessories, my tactics have reigned true over the past couple years. Packing small bags inside of larger bags, shoes inside of dust bags, and small items (like sunglasses) inside of hats. This strategy keeps things organized and optimizes space.

Since this trip was only a couple days long, I was able to fit everything into a carry on and my personal tote bag. I kept my beauty essentials in my tote while clothing, shoes, and purses were stashed inside my suitcase. Again, I’m always keen on optimizing space because I tend to overpack!

A Simple Romper

One of my absolute favorite pieces to pack for a vacation? A romper!

Similar to matching sets, this wardrobe staple makes getting dressed a total breeze. Because it’s just one piece, all that’s left is accessorizing.

I also love rompers because they’re unique in that they’re easy to dress up for more elevated outings or tone down for more laid-back settings.

I went with a more formal look with this outfit but the options are truly endless!

Shorts and a Button Down

You can never go wrong with a basic pair of jean shorts — especially on a beach or warm weather vacation! To switch up the typical denim short look, I opted for a pair of long bottoms. These are so trendy and fun (and they offer great coverage for those who don’t love going too short!)

Again, I wanted a more elevated look here, so I styled this outfit with kitten heels. You could easily swap these out for sandals or even white sneakers. Don’t be afraid to make it your own!

Skirt and a Tank

This look might be my favorite from the entire trip. Sure, it’s relatively simple, but that’s what makes it pretty and inviting. A skirt and a handful of tees or tank tops always make for a good suitcase addition.

These pieces could be worn during the day or in the evening — just switch out your shoes and accessories to accommodate the vibe!

Bonus: Both my tank and my skirt are under $50…

A Lightweight Pajama Set

I know I probably don’t need to remind you to pack pajamas, but this set has been a favorite of mine for so long. Especially when going somewhere warm, I always want to sleep in lightweight jammies. These are breathable, cute, and easy to pack!

Miami Packing List

While I do fall victim to overpacking every now and then, a huge hack I’ve found that helps is to plan all of your outfits ahead of time. This naturally makes your packing lighter, and it helps you stay more organized once you arrive.

Here’s a quick list of Miami packing essentials to help you prep for your trip…

– Swimsuits

– Cover-ups

– Sandals and heels

– Lightweight dresses

– Shorts (denim or linen)

– Tank tops and tees

– Denim shorts

– Athleisure/workout clothes

– Sunglasses and a sun hat

– Tote bag (a straw bag would be very on-theme!)

– Light layers, like a cardigan or denim jacket

– Lightweight pajamas and slippers

Whether you’re going to Miami for the first time or you’re a frequent visitor, I hope this guide helped you figure out what to wear and pack!
