Winter is in full swing and the weather (at least where I live) is here to prove it. While I’m excited for the holiday season, this time of year always reminds me that having a proper wardrobe for these cool conditions is absolutely essential.
Whether you live somewhere that experiences regular snow and frost or you simply see some rainy days, a quality coat is a must-have during the winter.
Over the years, I have gone through my fair share of winter coats—and some have admittedly been much nicer than others. I can be a challenge to find a coat that offers the perfect combination of style, warmth, and practicality, which is exactly why I put together this list of the best winter coats for women.
While a puffer jacket or waterproof find might be in the cards for some of you, the picks below are great go-to’s if you live somewhere that experiences mild to moderate weather. Stay warm!
If you are looking for a long, oversized jacket that doesn’t detract from the rest of your outfit, this Reiss Coat is perfect. The belted waist gives you a more tailored and polished look while also staying on trend with an oversized fit. You could pair this jacket with a chunky knit sweater or dress it up over a sequin skirt for a holiday party.
Similar to the Reiss coat above, I have a go-to oversized camel coat that I love (from Zara!) but unfortunately it’s sold out. I have linked one from Mango that is very similar—and also great quality. If you’re looking for something that is a bit more cost efficient, this is a great option. The drop shoulder makes it a bit more casual than the tailored fit above. You could wear this with just about everything, like a simple turtleneck or a sweatshirt for a casual look.
Gray is very much trending this season, and I’d consider a coat in this hue a wardrobe must-have. With a relaxed shoulder, this fit is going to give you a comfy and oversized look—ideal for when you’re wearing lots of layers. The black buttons and longer sleeves also add to its casual vibe. Also, you really can’t beat this price point (and it’s often on sale!)
You all know how much I adore everything from Sezane, and this coat is no exception. From the fit, hidden seams, gorgeous fabric, and covered buttons, the details on this jacket give it a timeless and put-together look. I also love that it’s such a versatile piece—you can wear it more casually with a t-shirt or you can dress it up an have yourself an Audrey Hepburn moment with the boxy fit.
If you’re looking for a gray jacket with a little bit more design to it, the small chevron detail on this fabric gives it a bit more character. The wide lapel, cuff details, and black buttons also add to its personality. Not to mention, the quality of MANGO coats is great for the price point. I also like this option.
Looking for a happy medium between the oversized and tailored look? If so, then this is the jacket for you. This coat is so simple and has dainty, clean lines—it would be a good go-to for any layered look. If you like a cinched waist style, this pieces comes with a belt that you can tie around your waist.
While I love my winter whites, dark colors will never go out of style. This Ralph Lauren coat features some iconic features from the brand, including the RL crest and vintage metal emblems. I also adore the pretty lining and the fitted elevated style.
p.s. This coat from Madewell has a similar look and is more well-stocked.
Although this jacket isn’t long like the others featured in this post, an oversized tuxedo coat is always nice to have in rotation. While I love the oversized trend, if you’re looking for something that is a bit on the shorter side, this coat will leave you with a somewhat boxy look without the excess length. This would look so chic with a chunky sweater and pair of jeans—the ideal outfit to keep you warm this winter.
I just can’t get enough of these classic MANGO coats. I have this same coat linked above in cream but it’s never a bad idea to stock up in different colors. Just like a little black dress, you can never have too many black coats when winter rolls around. This would make such a great gift since it’s at an attainable price point.
I know this one is low in stock, but this is a similar alternative.
