Summer is in full swing and we know a lot of us are spending a ton of time enjoying the sunshine! We know we have been trying to get outside every day but especially on the weekends since the weekdays are spent inside working. We love to spend time outdoors but skincare is such an important priority and as we know, the sun isn’t the best for our skin! That shouldn’t stop us from enjoying time outside, so we put together a few tips on how to take care of your skin this summer so you can enjoy the sun and protect your skin at the same time.
This might seem obvious, but so many people don’t wear sunscreen on the daily! It is so important to wear an SPF every single day, especially on your face. Even if it’s not too sunny out or even if it’s cloudy, the UV rays still hit (and damage) your skin. Here’s some important information about UV rays from the Skin Cancer Foundation.
“UV radiation is part of the natural energy produced by the sun. On the electromagnetic spectrum, UV light has shorter wavelengths than visible light, so your eyes can’t see UV, but your skin can feel it. Tanning beds also emit UV radiation.
Two types of UV light are proven to contribute to the risk for skin cancer:
That being said… bring on the sunscreen! There are so many amazing sunscreen options out there so you can avoid adding a greasy, uncomfortable layer to your skin. We’re especially loving the Elta MD sunscreen right now, plus these favorites below!
For even more skin protection, add a hat to your outfit! Hats aren’t just for the beach or being active outdoors, but a cute and functional accessory to complete your summer look. We love investing in a few different hat styles that will last season after season and work with multiple different outfits. There really is a hat for everyone based on what you’re looking for in style and price point. This wide boater hat is a great go-to, and we’re loving these other hats below!
We know that a lot of the desire to lay out in the sun is to get that golden summer tan! Don’t get us wrong, we love a good tan, but there are other ways to bronze your skin without sun damage. Of course, if you’re going to lay in the sun, always wear SPF. But if you want to stick to the shade and avoid the rays altogether, try out a self-tanner! If you’re not a mit and tanning moose kind of girl (it can get messy, we get it) try out a gradual self-tanning cream. One of our favorites is this one by Lux Unfiltered, it’s light, easy to put on, and won’t stain your sheets. We also are loving these self-tanners below.
