20+ Summer Makeup Products That Hold up in the Humidity and Heat

post featured image

While I know you likely have a solid beauty routine in place, there’s no denying that doing your makeup during the summer is a totally different ball game.

Picking high-coverage yet lightweight products that hold up well in the heat can be particularly challenging. Add in the humidity and things can get even more tricky. Luckily, through lots of trial and error, I feel like I’ve officially nailed the process.

From beach-ready finds to humidity-friendly picks, consider this your personal guide to all things summer makeup. Whether you’re heading to wedding and need a glammed-up look or you prefer more subtle touches, these products will make getting ready a total breeze.

Summer Makeup Products

Everyday Summer Makeup

As a general rule of thumb, it’s always wise to reach for lighter weight products when doing your makeup in the summer. This will ensure that your skin doesn’t get oily despite the humidity and heat. Think tinted moisturizers and lightweight CC creams rather than heavy duty foundations—especially when you’re going for a simple, everyday look.

I’d also recommend taking it easy when it comes to highlighter and blush. Remember that a little bit goes a long way and summer typically calls for more subtle and natural looks. Here are some of my favorites for day-to-day wear…

– If I had to choose just one product to use in my makeup routine, this foundation would be it. I wear the shade neutral tan during the warmer months. It provides the ideal amount of coverage to minimize the appearance of dark spots, blemishes, and redness.

This blush has some serious staying power and is very easy to blend. It has a slight sheen but isn’t sparkly, which I appreciate for daily wear. If you want to know more, I have a full review on it here!

– Mascara is always a must and this one lengthens your lashes like a champ.

– I use this $20 gel in the dark brown color and love the dimension it gives to brows. This is a seemingly small and quick step in your makeup routine yet it yields high impact.

– I wear this highlighter in the “Golden Glow” shade and love the subtle glow it provides. Another perk is that it’s buildable, making it hard to mess up.

– If you’d rather skip highlighter altogether, you could easily use this dewy illuminator instead. Use it before applying foundation or as a last step in your routine for glass-like skin.

– Finish things off with a shiny lip gloss (this one is a total breeze to apply!)

Beach Makeup

When prepping for a beach day, cover-ups and swimsuits might be the priority, but feeling fresh-faced is also a plus. Stick with dewy and hydrating makeup that won’t melt away in the harsh sun. Oh, and of course you don’t want to skimp out on sunscreen! Here are my top picks…

– Before applying any products, press this serum into your skin for a glowy and ultra-moisturizing prep step. I know it might be tempting to skip this, but I promise you will thank me for the recommendation later. On top of making your complexion look radiant, it also makes your makeup glide on much more smoothly.

– Sunscreen is crucial year-round, but it’s especially important to apply ahead of a beach day. These milky SPF drops won’t leave your skin oily. In fact, they almost serve as a makeup primer/base!

– Think of this whipped product as a leveled up tinted moisturizer. It’s formulated with vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and SPF—combining makeup with skincare.

– Another good option for your base layer is this sheer skin tint, which leaves you with a natural-looking finish. Bonus: It’s so light that you can re-apply it throughout the day. Just toss it in your tote bag so you’re ready to freshen up whenever needed.

– This multi-balm is made with a barely-there, weightless formula. Add it to your cheeks and lips for a pretty pop of color

– Of course a makeup brand that was co-founded by a surfer would create my top choice for beach-worthy mascara. This one is long-wearing and voluminous (the best of both worlds!)

– Keep your lips protected from the sun with an SPF balm that packs a punch of color.

Soft Glam Summer Makeup

Heading on a date night or to a special event? Spruce your beauty game up a bit with these summer-appropriate makeup finds (all which hold up well in the heat!)

– A full-coverage concealer is essential when going for a soft glam look. I swear by this one for a seamless, airbrushed finish. Blend it in with in a sponge or your fingertips.

– This blush is hands-down my holy grail beauty product. It has the best staying power and applies like a dream. I use it throughout the year/for a variety of occasions.

– Add some drama to your eyes with a liquid eyeliner. I love this one because it’s easy to use and leaves you with sharp and precise lines. Trust me, you don’t have to be a makeup pro to apply this.

– Nothing makes your lashes stand out quite like a tubing mascara. This one locks in on each individual lash and lengthens and lifts them with ease.

– For a high-coverage look, be sure to finish things off with a setting powder. This one doesn’t look cakey and will hold up well from day to night.

– Summer Fridays makes some of my favorite lip products, and this oil is one of them. It’s glossy, colorful, and hydrating all in one.

– If you prefer a lipstick, I’d highly suggest this smudge-proof pick. It’s another year-round winner but I have found that it does a particularly great job at staying put in warmer weather.
