Every summer, I find myself reaching for many of the same pieces. While I love discovering new finds each season, there are a handful of swimsuits, cover-ups, and accessories that have earned a permanent spot in my vacation wardrobe.
I’ve learned that when it comes to swimwear, timeless always wins. The pieces I wear most aren’t necessarily the trendiest. They’re the ones that make me feel comfortable, confident, and put together whether I’m spending the day at the beach, lounging by the pool, or heading to lunch afterward.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite summer swimwear and beach essentials that I wear year after year. If you’re planning a vacation, updating your summer wardrobe, or simply looking for swim outfit ideas, these are the pieces I can’t stop packing.
Many of these pieces recently came with me on a warm-weather getaway, and they’re the same staples I pack for nearly every beach destination. If you’re planning a tropical vacation, you may also enjoy my What to Pack for Mexico guide, where I share even more vacation outfit ideas and travel essentials.
There is something about a classic white bikini that instantly feels like summer.
This has become one of my favorite swim looks because it’s simple, flattering, and incredibly easy to style. Whether I’m spending the day at the beach or relaxing poolside, it’s one of those pieces I know I’ll reach for.
One of my favorite ways to wear it is with a lightweight sarong tied around the waist. It adds just enough coverage while still feeling effortless and beachy. I love pieces that can transition easily throughout the day, and this combination does exactly that.
What I love most about white swimwear is how versatile it is. It pairs beautifully with woven accessories, gold jewelry, neutral sandals, and pretty much every vacation bag I own.

Every summer wardrobe needs a classic black one-piece.
There is a reason this style never goes out of fashion. It’s elegant, flattering, and always feels polished. Whenever I’m packing for a trip, a black swimsuit is one of the first things that goes into my suitcase.
I especially love pairing it with a beautiful wrap skirt or pareo. It instantly transforms a simple swimsuit into a complete outfit and makes heading from the beach to lunch feel effortless.
A black one-piece is also one of the easiest swimwear styles to dress up. Add a few accessories, a great pair of sandals, and a woven tote, and you’re ready for just about anything.

One of my favorite packing tricks is bringing pieces that work together.
A chic one-piece swimsuit paired with matching shorts and an oversized button-down creates an entire outfit with very little effort. These are the kinds of pieces that make vacation dressing so much easier because everything coordinates.
I love throwing the button-down over my swimsuit in the morning, wearing it to the beach, and then styling it later for lunch or a walk around town.

A good beach bag is one of the hardest-working pieces in my summer wardrobe.
I always gravitate toward woven styles because they instantly make any swim outfit feel polished and vacation-ready. They’re practical enough to carry sunscreen, a book, sunglasses, and all the little beach-day essentials while still looking chic.
Whether I’m headed to the pool, the beach, or exploring a coastal town, a woven tote is always coming with me.

The accessories are often what bring an entire swim outfit together.
A great sun hat is something I never leave home without. Not only does it help protect my skin, but it also instantly elevates even the simplest swimsuit look.
I also tend to keep my jewelry fairly minimal during the summer. A few delicate pieces, simple earrings, and everyday favorites are usually all I need.
When it comes to shoes, comfort is always a priority. I love platform sandals and wedges that add a little height without sacrificing comfort. They’re perfect for everything from beach dinners to vacation sightseeing.
Beyond swimwear and accessories, there are a few things I never leave home without.
A great sunscreen is always at the top of my packing list. I’ve become much more intentional about protecting my skin over the years, especially during beach vacations and long pool days. One of my longtime favorites is the Vacation Orange Gelée SPF 30, which has earned a permanent spot in my beach bag. If you’re looking for more options, I recently rounded up all of my favorite formulas in my Best Sunscreens Tested & Reviewed guide, where I share the ones I continue reaching for year after year.
I also love bringing a clean fragrance that feels light and fresh for warm weather. There’s something about a beautiful summer scent that instantly transports me back to vacation memories.
Other essentials include sunglasses, lip balm, a water bottle, and usually a good book.
When it comes to summer style, I always find myself coming back to the pieces that make getting dressed feel easy. A flattering swimsuit, a great cover-up, comfortable sandals, and a few favorite accessories are really all I need for a beach day or vacation. These are the pieces that have earned a permanent place in my wardrobe because they work year after year and never feel outdated.
