Miami is a go-to destination for us throughout the year (especially when we want to escape the cold and dreary Indianapolis winters!) In this post, I’m sharing a handful of outfits I packed on my last few trips, along with a little outfit recap and a few tips on what to pack for Miami.
This should help you put together your own Miami packing list as well as encourage you to nail down specific outfit ideas before you leave for your oceanside vacation. Everything from swimsuits and cover-ups to skirts and pants are covered, so consider this your go-to Miami packing guide.
Oh, and before we dive in, I always get questions about the hotels we stay at while visiting, so I thought I’d give you guys a quick review on two popular spots.
We have stayed at the Shelborne and loved the amenities, pool, and all of the public areas on the property. It felt clean, safe, and everything was beautiful, so I would recommend it. The downside is that the rooms need some updates and the bathroom was smaller than I’d like for it to be. However, the shower was great and the view from the room was amazing! If you’re considering this property, it’s definitely worth getting a room with a balcony. We had a great view of the ocean and the city, and from our room (1404) we could see the sunrise as well as the sunset. Hard to beat these pluses 🙂
On our most recent trip, we switched things up and stayed at Faena. It was absolutely beautiful and I would definitely stay there again. We adored the pool and beach set up (both options are great for families.) I felt like these rooms were more up to date both style and amenity wise, so keep that in mind if you’re choosing between the two!
Without further ado, let’s get into exactly what to pack for Miami…

I have been loving this black and white swimsuit this season. It’s comfy, unique, and goes with so many cover-ups. The top and bottoms are sold separately, but you can mix and match them with other pieces since they’re so neutral.
Speaking of neutrals, this basic black cover-up skirt is a no-brainer to add to your summer wardrobe. The length offers the perfect amount of coverage while the slit adds a sexy feel. It comes in a few other colors as well.
When I’m headed to the beach, I accessorize with a wide brim sun hat, jelly sandals, and a big straw tote bag (this is my current fave.)
There’s no denying that I have a slight obsession with the swimwear from Hunza G, and this white one piece is one of my more recent additions to my collection. You really can’t go wrong with the classics, and everything from the color to the fit of this suit is timeless.
Add a bucket hat (this one is easy to pack!), some square sunglasses (these are an affordable dupe for the Gucci ones), and a pair of espadrille slides.
L*Space has been another one of my go-to spots for swimsuits. This one is so chic and has a tad of sexiness—what do you think?? I got it in size small but could’ve gone with XS. All the other suits in this post are small and fit perfectly. p.s. I’m so happy to report that this one piece has been restocked…grab your size while you can.
Slip into a pair of black pants, a straw hat, and some sandals (I’m currently eyeing these) and you’ll be ready to hit the sand!
This one-piece suit is a classic Hunza G, and since the brand only carries one size fits all (impressive) it has soooo much stretch. I’m obsessed! After you’re done tanning at the beach, wear it as a bodysuit with shorts or jeans—the perfect vacation look.
This matching top and skirt set feels like it was made to wear in Miami. Everything from the fringe detail to the cropped length make it the ideal outfit choice for happy hour or a day of shopping along the shore. Tote along this straw bucket bag for a fun and practical accessory.
This mini dress is unfortunately sold out in black but it’s well stocked in white! It’s the perfect weight/fabric for a chillier night by the ocean. While it’s meant to be worn as a cover-up, it can also double as a dress for a night out.
I found this pullover for under $20 from Forever 21 but it’s not available anymore. This one is similar and is also a great price point—size up for a slouchier feel!
Another good find that’s more luxe is this mock neck sweater from Varley. Just pair it with some denim shorts and white sneakers and you’ll be set for a busy day in Miami.
For another easy yet chic daytime look, try a white dress with some matching sandals. This dress is a great classic to keep around for many years to come (and you could also wear it as a cover up if needed.)
Depending on the weather, trousers can be a good pant option when visiting Miami. They offer a more upscale and sophisticated feel while keeping comfort as a top priority. This pair is my current fave.
I styled the pants with a basic white tank top (which you can never have too many of) and this striped cardigan. I found this to be such an appropriate outfit choice during my visit in early spring.
Gold sandals and a white purse added the finishing touch!
For another great outfit option (especially for the evenings), try a pinstriped trouser paired with a black and white striped tank. This look is so easy to put together yet it looks polished—ideal for a nice dinner out. Oh, and including a belt and a black leather jacket with this look will give it a cool and laid back feel.
I hope you guys enjoyed the post and found some helpful tips for if you ever visit Miami!
