Summer is officially underway, and I truly could not be happier to invite warmer weather and longer days into my life. While enjoyable, I know this time of year can be particularly busy—but that shouldn’t stop you from looking and feeling your best.
Whether you have loads of summer travel slated or you intend on kicking back by the pool, there’s one thing I know for sure: having a summer capsule wardrobe can simplify the getting ready process.
I’m the first to admit that I love switching up my outfits and testing out new trends, but there’s certainly a time and a place for a style capsule. Plus, just because you have some go-to pieces that you rotate through, doesn’t mean you can’t add to it or step outside of the box from time to time.
To inspire you to stock your closet with practical, easy-to-mix pieces, I put together this complete summer capsule wardrobe guide. I’ve broken the guide into categories that I have found to be the most helpful over the years: Daytime wear, night out, poolside, casual looks, resort dresses, everyday dresses, and summer travel outfits. I can’t really think of anything else you might need to make it through the season (in a stylish way!)
Below, find my tried-and-true staples for the season, including outfit ideas for specific outings and occasions…

If you need inspiration on specific outfit ideas, I’ve got you covered! From the beach to happy hour, here are some ways to look put-together while staying comfortable and cool.
Denim shorts, linen shorts, and lightweight jeans are all fair game when it comes to daytime dressing. Pair any of those bottoms with a breezy blouse or tank top for a casual yet polished look, then finish with some sandals and a tote bag.
Tip: Planning to be out all day and night? Go with jeans as your bottom layer. While you might be a little warm during the day, you’ll be glad you have the coverage come sunset time.
There’s no denying that wearing a comfy outfit is crucial when traveling, whether you’re on a road trip or a long-haul flight. If you’re traveling by plane, keep in mind that it’s generally chilly when you’re up in the air, so wearing layers or opting for pants is typically best.
As far as shoes go, sandals are an obvious pick, but if you want something on the sturdier side, try white sneakers instead. They’re simple and will likely pair well with the other outfits you have packed in your luggage.
Summer wouldn’t be complete without ample time spent by the pool or the beach. Look the part by adding quality swimsuits, cover-ups, and sandals to your wardrobe. I personally love all the swimwear finds from Hunza G (you can read my full review on the brand here) but Abercrombie, Anthropologie, and Nordstrom are some other of my go-to spots.
Also, don’t be afraid to invest a little in cover-ups. You’ll likely be surprised by how often you wear them, and they’ll serve you well year after year.
Heading to happy hour or an outdoor dinner event? You can’t go wrong with a summer dress (floral or plain) and some high heels. For a more unexpected and upscale look, try linen-blend trousers and a silky top. All of these pieces will transition well into the fall months, and each can be layered with a denim jacket or cardigan if the evening forecast is somewhat chilly.
A warm weather vacation calls for flowy, easy-to-throw-on dresses. These finds can all be styled with sandals, heels, and flats for a fool-proof outfit choice. Plus, you could wear a swimsuit underneath if you’re heading to the pool, then slip the dress back on at any point.
For everyday outings, linen and cotton dresses are two options that are lightweight and comfortable. Any dress would work, but I personally love more simple and streamlined pieces, like the options below. Throw a cardigan or denim jacket over your shoulders if you need an extra layer.
If you need more ideas for casual, everyday outfits, consider the options below. They’re all ideal for wearing to lunch with friends or for running errands. I love the idea of wearing a thin jumpsuit, a knit midi dress, or linen shorts and a striped tank top with some basic sandals. You’re sure to get a lot of use out of all of these pieces, and I’m confident you’ll find them as cozy as I do!
