When it comes to makeup, I always look for products that offer me the most versatility. I appreciate it when I can use the same items for an everyday look as I would when I want to rock a more glamorous and “done up” style. While there are certainly a lot of products out there that fit that bill, one brand that I feel totally nails this is Tarte.
I’d be shocked if you haven’t heard rave reviews about the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer or the brand’s Juicy Lip Balms. But what about their other products? Do they live up to the hype? Here, I’m sharing my honest Tarte review, and I’m including a handful of my favorite products as well as some of their most popular picks.
Whether you’re looking for a couple new recommendations or you want to give your overall makeup routine a refresh, I’m sure you’ll be inspired to test out some of these finds for yourself.
Starting on a strong note, this might be one of my favorite Tarte products to date. They do carry quite a few lip products, so it can be a little bit overwhelming to sort through when you’re new to the brand.
I’d highly suggest starting with the liquid lip, which I wear in shade “Forget Me Not” (the perfect pink color.) I love it because it’s made with a hydrating formula that doesn’t leave your lips feeling sticky or wet. It also plumps your lips in a gentle yet noticeable way, which is a major win in my book.
Think of it as a does-it-all lip product that’s a hybrid between lip gloss and lip stick.
I know that bronzers aren’t necessarily a staple in everyone’s makeup routine, but they’re so easy to use and can make a big impact in your overall look. Even on a daily basis, a little swipe of bronzer on your cheekbones and along the bridge of your nose will add so much dimension and color to your face.
This pick from Tarte glides on smoothly and is very pigmented, meaning a little bit goes a long way. It has a natural looking finish so you don’t end up with streaky spots of color on your skin. People also rave about how good this product smells, which isn’t what you’d typically expect from a bronzer, but certainly is an added bonus. I’ll let these reviews speak for themselves:
“I love this bronzer for contouring it really works well on any skin tone and makes your face look exceptionally glowy.”
“This is my absolute favorite bronzer!! It must be the fourth time I’ve re-ordered it. It also smells amazing and has a nice sun kissed color—no orange!”
“I love using this bronzer to contour. It’s also great to darken blush and works well as a eyeshadow base. It has a hint of shine for a beautiful glow and it’s not heavy.”
This eyeliner is a frequently used item in my personal makeup bag. It’s a 2-in-1 product that has both a liquid and a gel eyeliner.
Use the liquid to create a sharp, precise, and matte-looking eye or opt for the gel if you want a more natural and worn-in result. You can also use the liquid side on your upper lids and the gel formula on your eyelash line.
One major perk to this eyeliner pencil (as opposed to others on the market) is that it’s really easy to use. I feel like eyeliners are hard to master because they typically require you to have a very steady hand and a lot of focus while applying. This one is relatively forgiving, and obviously it’s just nice to have both liquid and gel formulas in one compact product.
I know that finding a quality foundation that truly matches with your skin tone and skin type is no easy feat. However, after so many people raved about this Face Tape Foundation, I knew I had to give it a try.
For starters, I love that the brand includes such a large variety of shades. I also appreciate that you can buy it in a full or travel size (start with the travel size if you’re unsure!)
The formula is quite creamy while still being easy to blend—it almost feels like it melts into your skin. Other perks include that it’s sweat proof, waterproof, and transfer-proof. It does a great job at covering redness and dark spots, in case you deal with melasma or another skin issue. Oh, and for reference, I wear shade 35B.
I couldn’t post a Tarte review without talking about what is arguably the brand’s most highly coveted product—the Shape Tape concealer. From the get go, this makeup pick was universally liked, and today it’s still a popular choice for covering up dark circles and blemishes.
As if the nearly 25,000 reviews don’t say enough, I will just note that this concealer provides ample coverage for everyday wear as well as for bigger events and peskier skin concerns. I really can’t stand when a concealer gets creases throughout the day, and I’m happy to report that this one passes the test.
On top of high coverage, it also has a blurring effect that leaves your complexion looking natural and healthy—a win-win!
If you haven’t jumped on board with the tubing mascara trend yet, this is your sign to. Not familiar with this concept? Tubing mascaras basically wrap each lash in lengthening “tubes” rather than weighing them down with layers of pigment. This creates a longer and more natural look, without the need to cake on a ton of product.
This specific mascara has been one of my go-to’s because it’s long-wearing and doesn’t smudge or flake. One tube lasts such a long time since you don’t have to swipe on multiple layers at a time.
Other highlights: It’s made with shea butter and castor oil which work to condition and hydrate your lashes, and it’s easy to remove with just water and face wash (no scrubbing necessary).
Not really into liquid lip products? Try this Juicy Lip Balm instead. This is definitely another one of Tarte’s bestsellers. It has a….well….balmy texture and provides both a dose of color and shine.
The ingredients feature antioxidant-rich fruits so it hydrates and nourishes your skin while you’re wearing it. I also really like that it comes in so many color options, including clear for those who prefer a more streamlined look.
If you want to step up your makeup game without having to add several steps or learn any new techniques, look no further than this highlighter.
When I say it could not be more simple to apply, I truly mean you could do it with your eyes closed. Just dab the wand along your cheekbones, temples, under your brows, or along your Cupid’s bow and gently blend it with your fingertips—that’s it!
Because no brushes or Beauty Blenders are needed, you could easily throw this in your purse or a beach bag to freshen up throughout the day. As the brand says, it leaves you with a “next-level glow” and provides a pretty illuminating effect.
I couldn’t imagine my makeup routine without a good blush, and while I’m loyal to my Patrick Ta Blush, this is another good option that I rotate through. It applies just like the highlighter above and is highly pigmented, dewy, and brightening.
I’d recommend this if you need something to apply/re-apply on the go, or if you’re looking for something that won’t take much time to put on in the mornings. Here are some reviews from purchasers:
“I’ve only used this once so far, but I like that it’s light and doesn’t stand out too much. It’s hard to find a shade that goes with my skin and I feel this adds some color without overdoing it.”
“I’m 60 years old and blush tape provides a nice “flushed” glow just on my cheeks. It’s long wearing and doesn’t seem to rub off.”
“The staying power is the best I have ever used and it blends perfectly.”
A lot of people don’t love liquid formulas, so if you fall into that category, this Glow Powder is a good alternative. The shine isn’t overpowering, which is a major plus because so many other highlighters are just a little bit too much.
There’s also multiple ways you can use this: Dust is all over your face to serve as a setting powder or just use it on the high points of your face for some depth and color. People love it because it creates a “no makeup” makeup look and appreciate that it has a more sheer finish.
For $25, you can’t beat this little palette. Even if you aren’t that into eyeshadows, it’s still a good product to have in your makeup drawer because it contains all the neutrals you might need for a more “done up” look.
It comes with matte and shimmer options and tons of reviewers mention that they all have really impressive staying power. You could always use the darker shades as liner as well!
